The New Jersey Shade Tree Federation

The New Jersey Shade Tree Federation

A non-profit organization that has been assisting those individuals and agencies entrusted with the selection, planting and care of trees since 1926.

Our objectives are to provide our members with the latest up-to-date information and techniques, as well as other related topics of interest and importance.

Our office, conveniently located on the Cook College Campus of Rutgers University, may be contacted for a wide range of information and services.

.

The New Jersey Shade Tree Federation accomplishes its objectives in the following ways:

Hosting an Annual Three-Day Meeting:

Where we bring together nationally known scientific professionals, college professors, tree experts, commercial, municipal and utility arborists, state forestry and agriculture personnel, county and municipal shade tree commissioners, park and road departments, environmental commissioners, municipal planners, students and interested individuals to exchange information and ideas.

The 83rd ANNUAL MEETING will be held October 24-26, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia-Cherry Hill Hotel, 2349 W. Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill, N.J.

Topics selected for presentation at our annual meeting and published in our newsletter, which is printed bi-monthly (6 issues), include timely information important to the management of municipal and park shade tree departments, commercial arboriculture, and landscape firms.

Publishing:

In addition to our newsletter "The Shade Tree," the Federation publishes "Trees for N.J. Streets," an indispensable guide for information on planting the right tree in the right place.

Also available, " Volcanoes Killing Trees In New Jersey", A NJ Division of Parks publication.

Promoting:

Tree City USA, Arbor Day, community forestry, and related sound arboricultural practices.

Remember that a properly selected tree, given a suitable location and proper care, will outlive the person who plants it and will continue to benefit people for generations to come.

Trees create green spaces in communities. The right trees in the right places benefit you, your home, and your community now and in the future. It is essential to select living trees to create a sense of place within communities.

As well as providing beauty, trees moderate the effect of heat, sound, air pollution, excess storm water runoff, and soil erosion. Trees also provide a living space for wildlife, enhance property values, and contribute to the economic vitality of communities.

Greening and maintaining a community landscape is a long term commitment that depends on people! Designed, built landscapes with living trees require an infusion of human energy to survive. Parks and other built landscapes need people for completion.

If you have an interest in improving our environment through better tree selection and sound maintenance practices, then the New Jersey Shade Tree Federation is for you!
